2010 PMF Conference on
Biofilm -
Advanced Topics in Biofilm
April 12-13, 2010
Philadelphia, PA
An underlying critical need in pharmaceutical,
biopharmaceutical and cosmetics manufacturing is the capability
to recognize and control biofilm contamination in product
manufacturing and process water systems. While biofilms are
ubiquitous in the natural environment, biofilms in
pharmaceutical water systems or product systems can be dangerous
(potentially pathogenic) and costly. You can help prevent these
problems by learning to recognize the signs of a biofilm
contamination problem, and learning what steps can be taken to
find the problem and control it.
The speakers at this conference have strong
backgrounds in biofilms, both academic and industrial. This
conference is recommended for microbiologists, process
engineers, quality engineers and operations management who wish
to gain knowledge of:
- Biofilm characteristics and problems
- Biofilm measurement and detection
- Biofilm control and cleaning
The PMF is providing an opportunity
for the membership to meet in small groups with international
academic and industry experts.
Come and pose your questions to industry
thought leaders in a small and personal setting. This is an unparalleled opportunity to benchmark your
practices not only against current regulatory expectations, but
also against other companies in the industry.
This conference will be moderated by Mark
Fornalik. Mark worked for 22 years at Eastman Kodak
Company, where he headed a 12-person group dedicated to
detecting, characterizing and controlling biological and
chemical contamination problems in Kodak’s global liquid
transfer systems. Mark also led a successful product development
project using silver as an antimicrobial at Kodak. After leaving
Kodak, he joined Ethox International in 2007. Mark recently left
Ethox to launch his own consulting business,
Industrial Biofouling
Science, LLC. He holds a M.S. degree in biophysics from
SUNY/Buffalo, with a thesis in the impact of substrate surface
chemical properties on the initial stages of dental plaque
formation.
Mark will lead a team of nationally known experts,
both academic and industrial, over the
course of the two days, allowing all participants
opportunity to address their concerns with several experts
present.
